This is a Vinyasa-based method that teaches precise cueing, detailed alignment, and pranayama (breath) fluidly connected to asana (posture) to create a flowing movement meditation. Trainees will learn Sun Salutations and postures, how to artfully sequence, and modifications and props to enhance the practice for each student. You will learn how to pace classes moderately to vigorously for various levels and limitations.
-
We recommend that you have a minimum of 6 months consistent yoga practice before enrolling in our teacher training program. We want to ensure that our trainees have a basic foundation in the primary yoga postures before learning how to teach them.
If you have just recently started practicing yoga and do not fulfill the 6-month requirement but are interested in the yoga teacher training program, we encourage you to take at least 3-5 classes a week before the program starts.
Please be aware that each training day includes one to two 60 - 75 minute asana practices and additional practice time throughout each day.
-
Not only will you make lifelong friends and deepen your experience of yoga, you will also study the following topics:
* Yoga Asanas and Alignment — learn safe, anatomy-based alignment of essential yoga postures
* Cueing, Sequencing and Assisting Asanas — learn clear, intelligent cues; artful sequencing; modifications and variations; use of props; and verbal and hands-on assists
* Yoga Philosophy, Paths of Yoga, and Key Yoga Texts
* Physical Anatomy — learn parts of the body, muscle actions, how the body is put together, and how it’s used in yoga. Learn to see the body as a whole and offer quick, meaningful modifications
* Subtle Anatomy — discover the energetic layers of the body that surround your soul
* Bhakti Yoga—learn about the spiritual practice of yoga
* The Business of Yoga — learn the business side of being a yoga teacher either as an independent contractor, employee, or studio owner. This key element is often overlooked in 200 hr YTTs, but SSY trainees will receive business coaching and a toolkit to start your yoga business successfully
* Yoga Ethics — strengthen your student-teacher relationship as a yoga professional
* The Role of Service (Seva) — learn how to integrate selfless service into your personal practice and yoga business
* Communication and Public Speaking — find your own unique voice and style, learn how to project your voice, gain confidence, and become a leader both on and off the mat
* Pranayama — learn types of pranayama (breath work) and their techniques
* Meditation — learn to venture into the workings of the mind through various meditation techniques

Yoga Alliance requires that you complete all 200 hours of the teacher training. However, we understand that sometimes conflicts happen. Any absences from sessions and correlating make up requirements must be agreed upon and prearranged with the teacher prior to the start of training.
We also understand that emergencies arise in which case we will discuss with individuals after the fact what that will look like but please understand this could delay the completion of certification. Depending on the teacher and the content missed, private sessions might be required at the expense of the trainee.
Please note that you can miss a maximum of 27 training hours, and you will have one year from the last day of your program to complete your attendance requirements. If you miss more than 27 hours or do not complete your make up hours within one year, you will receive a not passing status and will be required to pay in full to retake the training.
You have the following option for making up your missed time: Schedule a private session with your trainer at some point during the program. The cost of a private session ranges from $100-$150 per hour:
• 1 hour private = 1-4 hours of missed time
• 1.5 hour private = 5-6 hours of missed time
• 2 hour private = 7-8 hours of missed time
• 2.5 hour private = 9-10 hours of missed time
• 3 hour private = 11-13 hours of missed time
Please note: Only two sessions of private instruction, regardless of hours, are allowable and are subject to trainer availability. The remainder of your missed time will need to be made up in a future training. Private make up sessions are only an option during your current training and are not an option once the program is complete.
Please note that if you miss over 27 hours, you will not pass the program and will be required to pay in full to retake the program.
-

Yoga Alliance is an organization founded in 1999 as a way to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and yoga teacher trainings in the US. In 2007 Yoga Alliance became an international organization. Although teaching yoga is not regulated in the U.S., yoga studios across the country increasingly require their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance, either at the 200-Hour or 500-Hour level. Soul Society Yoga’s 200 YTT through Yogasoul is a Yoga Alliance 200-Hour level in the United States. Yogasoul trainings have a 5-star Yoga Alliance rating from past graduates.
-
With the successful completion of all the requirements of the program, including contact hours, homework, and exam, you will receive your Letter of Completion and Diploma evidencing your training at the 200-Hour Level. You may also register with the Yoga Alliance (www.yogaalliance.org) at the RYT-200 level (Registered Yoga Teacher 200).
Graduates of the 200-Hour program usually begin teaching in small studios, gyms, and with private clientele (friends and family), etc. Many new teachers decide to continue their Teacher Training education and participate in a 300-Hour YTT as a way to further solidify their skills, knowledge, and style as a yoga instructor.

Soul Society seeks diverse, committed, and well-trained individuals who uphold our high standard of quality for safe, effective and accessible teaching in the field of yoga, as well as our values of integrity and balance.
If you are interested in teaching at Soul Society, we encourage you to start by taking classes at our studio. The hiring process to teach at Soul Society starts with an interview and audition. Soul Society requires its teachers hold at least 200-hours of yoga teaching education and at least 30 hours of teaching experience.
Please note that being hired at Soul Society Yoga or at any institution is not only a matter of completing a training, but of the right fit for that studio as well as the availability of openings on the schedule. It is never guaranteed.
